Ever been Snow Shoeing ? It is a great way to explore your snow covered neighbourhood. It is very friendly for the environment. Maybe you think it is merely walking. Well, … just try it one day and you will enjoy it, have no doubt.

Snow shoeing is marvellous. In October 2008 we had vacation and went to Disentis, Acletta. We expected an Indian Summer, but hey, we got a meter snow. I had the snow shoes with me and used them for the first time. The first thing I noticed while snow sheoing is that you can start at your doorstep. You do not have to carry heavy shoes or skis with you. You just have to tighten your own shoes into the snow shoebindings. Then take your nordic walking sticks or ski sticks and head for the snow.
Of course you get tired much faster on snow shoes compared to skiing. My dream is going up the hill to the Caischavedras mountain station where the cable car drops of the skiers onto the slopes. As far as today i have not had the courage to do so. I merely walk around the apartment building. I think I should start at Acletta and go to the Segnas farm shop and see how long it will take me. I guess the rescue team will have no trouble finding me there when i call them with my cell phone.
I have bought two pairs of children’s snow shoes and a pair for my wife and would like to go for a family walk next time we go to Disentis in Wintertime. The ski school hours do interfere however a lot with my plans so far. I hope the kids will soon ski good enough so we do not have to send them to the ski school for the whole week. Then, one day, we will be ready to go for a walk with the snow shoes. I will take the Camping Gaz coffee maker along and brew some coffee. I think I should take a Thermos filled with chocolate milk as well. Caotina, mmmhh.
