Disentis lies more than 1000 meters above sea level. From the end of October until the month of May serious snow fall can occur. Therefore it is recommended to use snow tires on your car and to have snow chains in the car in case of snow or ice covered roads. When snow falls the communal services do their best to clear the roads as soon as possible.

The Oberalppass is closed in Winter. the Lukmanier remains open unless there is very heavy snowfall. The communal service do clear the roads as soon as possible. The road to Ticino is very important for disclosure of the regions. But when snow falls in huge amounts this pass is also closed temporarily.
The main road from Chur to Disentis is a very nice and safe road. But is not an autostrada. Moderate speed is recommended. You will also pass several village centers where you really have to slow down in respect to the inhabitants. Switzerland is not a racetrack and one should behave as a guest. Near Flims there are two nice tunnels to avoid hairpin curves around Flims. It is a road to enjoy.
